SEN is not just a lamp; it is a piece of art that can be placed and enjoyed like a flower or an object. In a world filled with overly bright lights, SEN offers a respite, creating a relaxing ambiance. Its design evokes a feeling of attachment, like an object with high added value.
The central glass bulb of SEN is wrapped with two parts at different angles, resulting in softened light and shadow. This interplay of light and shadow adds depth to the lamp, making it visually captivating. The outer shell of SEN features a color gradation that changes depending on the brightness and viewing angle, further enhancing its aesthetic appeal.
Creating SEN was no easy feat. The shape of the lamp is achieved by inserting 94 linear parts, cut out of a 0.8mm thick stainless steel plate, into two rings with small holes. This precise and delicate assembly is made possible through highly advanced laser cutting technology. The stainless steel used in SEN also undergoes a special technique to achieve the beautiful color gradation.
With dimensions of 115mm in width, 115mm in depth, and 176mm in height, SEN is a compact and portable lamp. It is cordless, with LEDs and batteries built into the body, allowing it to be taken anywhere. The lamp can be easily turned on and off with a remote control, providing convenience and flexibility in creating a relaxing atmosphere.
The design process for SEN began in Japan in the summer of 2020, and a prototype was realized in 2021. Miwako Tanahashi's research focused on creating a lamp that could be enjoyed through touch and sight. The use of stainless steel ensures that the lamp maintains its shape and simplicity, even with thin parts that are pleasing to the touch.
SEN has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the creativity and ingenuity of the design, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life.
SEN is not just a lamp; it is a work of art that combines tradition and modernity. Its unique design and portability make it a versatile lighting fixture that can be enjoyed in various settings, from bedside tables to outdoor spaces. With SEN, Miwako Tanahashi has created a lamp that not only illuminates but also enriches our lives with its beauty and functionality.
